QueensCare Scholarships
The John Joseph Brandlin Memorial Scholarship Fund
In recognition of 32 years of service to and management of QueensCare, the John Joseph Brandlin Scholarship Fund distributes $250,000 in support of healthcare education every year. QueensCare awards these funds to assist in curing the continuous shortage of healthcare professionals working in underserved communities.
Among his many contributions, John Joseph Brandlin (1913 – 2010) co-founded with Arthur W. Barron, QueensCare, a charity dedicated to providing free and low-cost healthcare to low-income residents of Los Angeles County in 1998. Mr. Brandlin understood the value of education. As a four-year scholarship recipient himself, he attended the University of Illinois, later the School of Law at the University of Southern California, and subsequently practiced law in Los Angeles for 50 years.
The John Joseph Brandlin Scholarship Fund is limited to students preparing for careers in the healthcare field, from medical assistants to physicians, in disciplines specified by the QueensCare Board of Directors.

“I cannot remember a time when I didn’t dream of becoming a doctor. Both of my parents immigrated to the United States from Mexico and worked as farmworkers in the Central Valley of California. Even though they were unable to help me financially, they always believed in me and encouraged me to follow every single one of my dreams. It is because of the generosity of organizations like QueensCare that I am able to fund my medical education. With their support, I am able to focus on becoming an exceptional physician so that I can fulfill my mission of caring for underserved and unhoused patients in the future. QueensCare is opening the door for first-generation, underrepresented students in medicine like myself and for that I could not be more grateful.”
~Vanesa Nunez, Scholarship Recipient.
