On Saturday, December 7th, QueensCare hosted the 4th Annual Holiday Health Fair at MacArthur Park. This event brought more attendees than ever with over 1,500 community members enjoying a day filled with health, resources, and holiday cheer. With the help of Eunisses Hernandez (Council District 1), the MacArthur Park Community Center (LA Department of Recreation and Parks), and our presenting sponsor Via Care this year’s Holiday Health Fair was our biggest and best yet.
The event was a true testament to the power of collaboration, with 23 community partners providing valuable resources and information to attendees. Families were offered flu shots, dental screenings, blood pressure screenings, hygiene kits and more in efforts to make health a holiday tradition. Our Mobile Vision Program was a highlight of the day, offering eye exams from Ivan the Eye Van, QueensCare’s mobile optometry trailer. Thanks to our partner, Power of Sight, over 60 pairs of glasses were made on-site and distributed free of charge, ensuring that community members left with clearer vision.
Children had an abundance of activities to choose from, including jumpers, arts and crafts, face painting, and ornament decorating. One of the most eagerly anticipated parts of the event, our annual toy giveaway, brought joy to countless young faces. Toys were provided by Jakks Pacific Inc, soccer balls were sponsored by Zolfaghari Law Firm, and books were donated by University of Southern California (USC). Thanks to our wonderful event hosts, Edgardo Gazcón (Charitable Board Member) and Maryam Sesay (Director of Operations), children and adults alike were entertained with games that kept their energy high and their spirits bright.
The thrift store was another big hit, offering thousands of items for attendees to browse through, including outerwear to help families prepare for the winter months. Clothing was donated by several sources including QueensCare staff and board members and partnered organizations such as Via Care and Pico Union Project.
Meanwhile, the food pantry distributed groceries to nourish families beyond the event. With help from partnered organizations like Manos Que Sobreviven, Seeds of Hope, White Memorial Church, and the Pasadena Job Center, we were able to offer the community produce, protein, dry goods, and canned food. Even as the day came to a close, the food pantry continued to provide essential items to those in need, ensuring no one left empty-handed.
This event was a beautiful reminder of the strength and unity within our community. It was made possible by the hard work of our staff and the generosity of our sponsors, community partners and volunteers. The enthusiasm from everyone in attendance created a day that celebrated the season and supported those we serve. Thank you to everyone who joined us in making this event a success. We look forward to continuing to bring care, resources, and joy to our community in the years to come!
