How We Work
QueensCare’s Programs
QueensCare is a charitable organization dedicated to making healthcare accessible for low-income residents of Los Angeles County—including those uninsured, underinsured, or ineligible for government programs. Each year, QueensCare funds nearly $20 million in services and charitable giving. Through 13 dedicated charitable funds, we channel essential resources to address the wide range of health challenges affecting the communities we serve. QueensCare works to expand access to care for all Los Angeles residents while remaining true to the values set forth by the Franciscan Sisters.
Charitable Grants
QueensCare provides grants to nonprofit partners working to expand access to care and improve health outcomes for the low-income communities across Los Angeles County. By collaborating with other organizations, QueensCare extends its reach and amplifies its collective impact.
Scholarships
The John Joseph Brandlin Scholarship Fund distributes up to $250,000 annually to support education for primary care providers. QueensCare awards these funds to help address the ongoing shortage of healthcare professionals in underserved communities.
Inpatient Healthcare
QueensCare contracts with nonprofit hospitals across Los Angeles to cover the costs of hospitalizations for low-income patients and offset the risk of burdening patients with medical debt.
QueensCare Health Alliance’s Services
In 2024, QueensCare’s long-standing direct service programs came together under a new banner—QueensCare Health Alliance (QHA)—an affiliate organization created to strengthen our impact, expand partnerships, and carry forward the same mission of compassionate care for Los Angeles communities through collaborations with organizations, schools, and places of worship.
Health & Faith Partnership
Since 1992, this team of nurses has offered a range of preventative health screenings and health education materials personalized to patients’ needs, all on a walk-in basis. They work alongside Community Health Workers to connect patients with the resources they need, including referrals and advocacy.
Mobile Dental Program
In partnership with the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC, this program operates state-of-the-art mobile clinics, delivering dental care directly to schools and community sites. A full range of services and treatments are provided for patients up to age 26, bringing healthy smiles to youth across Los Angeles.
Mobile Vision Program
Ivan the Eye Van—a fully equipped mobile vision clinic—travels across the community to provide vision screenings and comprehensive eye exams to individuals of all ages. Every year, the program delivers free prescription glasses to thousands of patients, ensuring adequate vision, especially for the developing eyes of younger patients.
Mental Health Program
Individual and family therapy is offered for youth and adults up to age 26 with culturally responsive, trauma-informed care. In addition, behavioral health workshops are offered for various age groups. The Mental Health Internship Program educates future mental health clinicians and familiarizes them with the needs of the communities we support.
Pastoral Care Division
Spiritual care offered by interdenominational chaplains fosters comfort, counseling, and healing for Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center patients facing health challenges, their families, and hospital staff. In addition, the chaplains help individuals and families better understand and document their healthcare wishes with presentations on advance directives.
