    QHFP Director Co-Authors National Study Publications

    QHFP actively participates in community-partnered research activities with UCLA, USC, RAND and other local academic and community-based organizations. QHFP is currently serving as a lead community partner on the Community Partners in Care (CPIC), an NIH-funded study led jointly by community and academic partners, designed to evaluate the efficacy of large-scale community-engagement efforts around access to quality care for depression. QHFP Director, Dr. Elizabeth Dixon has co-authored three articles based on the CPIC study.

    QueensCare Family Clinics’ Clinical Pharmacy Recognized at National HRSA Conference

    QueensCare Family Clinics has had a successful clinical pharmacy program for over five years. The initiation and development of our program was the topic of a ‘breakout session’ at a national conference sponsored by the Health Resources Service Administration’s (HRSA) Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy Collaborative. Assistant CMO, Dr. Guillermo Diaz and Clinical Pharmacist, Cecilia Wu, PharmD represented QFC during the May 12th, 2010 conference held in our capital, Washington D.C. The conference was broadcast via the internet to several host sites and also viewed by numerous individuals from hospitals, clinics, and pharmacies across the nation.

    Congressman Becerra Reads Aloud to Young Children at QueensCare Family Clinics – Hollywood

    Pediatricians and nurses at QueensCare Family Clinics are sending families home from checkups with free books and a very important prescription – “read aloud to your children.” Recently, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-31) visited the Hollywood site, not only to cheer them on, but to practice what doctors preach by reading to a group of young patients.

    Osteoporosis Screening

    In celebration of National Women’s Health Week, QHFP offered free osteoporosis screenings for two mornings in mid May. Overall, 97 clients were screened over the 2 days. 71% had normal results; 29% had osteopenia and 0% had osteoporosis. Every client received personalized health education in addition to the screening.

    Osteoporosis and low bone mass affect and estimated 44 million Americans. Experts project that one in two women will suffer an osteoporosis related fracture in their lifetimes. Osteoporosis screenings are a quick and easy way to prevent these types of fractures from occurring.

    Supervisor Ridley-Thomas visits QueensCare Family Clinics

    Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas and Dean R. Pete Vanderveen of the University of Southern California’s School of Pharmacy recently visited QueensCare Family Clinics, Echo Park to learn more about the clinical pharmacy services available at several QueensCare Family Clinics locations.
